Sri LankaWhat makes this place worth the journey.
On Sri Lanka’s far-eastern edge, where the dawn touches Asia first, stands Jetwing Surf & Safari — a barefoot masterpiece of thatch, timber, and breeze.
Here at Pottuvil Point, the rhythm of the ocean replaces clocks, and luxury is measured not by marble but by the sound of surf beneath the moon.
“This isn’t a resort by the sea — it’s the sea teaching you how to breathe.”
Built from coconut-thatched roofs and woven palms, Jetwing Surf & Safari honours both the planet and the pulse of Sri Lanka’s surf culture.
The reasons travellers book around this place.
Jetwing Surf & Safari redefines “beach resort” as a living ecosystem.
Its 20 hand-crafted cabanas open to wind and sea, each shaped like the curling wave that gives it life. No glass, no plastic — only woven palm, bamboo, and silence.
Sithiyam Insider: “Every wall breathes; every view is alive.”
The resort’s energy is solar; its soul, purely Sri Lankan — built by local artisans from nearby villages in Pottuvil and Panama.
The dry, bright window and the months to sit out.
From Colombo airport (CMB), three good ways down the coast.
Roughly 2–2½ hrs on the E01 Southern Expressway from the airport. The way we send most guests — door to door, stop when you like.
The Colombo–Matara line hugs the shore for stretches. Slower and less predictable, but a lovely ride if you sit on the right, ocean side.
Air-conditioned coaches run Colombo–Galle in about two hours for a few dollars. Frequent, but no help with bags or timing.
What the rooms are like.
Eco Cabanas — Open-air cocoons with vaulted thatch ceilings and ocean-view decks; perfect for Surf Couples or Eco Travellers.
Deluxe Cabanas — Private plunge tubs and sunset-facing verandas for Luxe Beach Seekers.
Family Cabanas — Interconnected units with outdoor showers for Families and Groups.
Pro Tip: Ask for Cabana #7 — closest to the point break and evening sea breeze.
Each cabana uses natural air-flow instead of A/C — wind and wave are the only soundscape you need.
What is worth your time from here.
A slow loop of the sea walls as the light goes — lighthouse, Flag Rock, the mosque, and cricket on the green below. The definitive Galle hour.
Dutch Reformed Church, the Maritime Museum, gem and jewellery ateliers, and a dozen galleries and concept stores between Pedlar and Church streets.
A sheltered, palm-backed crescent — the south coast's easiest swimming beach, with reef snorkelling at the Jungle Beach end.
Forty minutes east, small-boat trips head out at dawn for blue and sperm whales passing the continental shelf.
A closer look, frame by frame.
Where to eat and drink at the hotel.
Poonie's Kitchen, Pedlar's Inn and a dozen café courtyards for a long morning between the lanes.
Grilled catch and cold beers at the beach shacks of Unawatuna and Dalawella, a short tuk-tuk from the walls.
The Tuna & The Crab or Fort Bazaar for a dressed-up evening — book ahead in season.
Restaurant at Jetwing Surf: Fresh seafood, organic vegetables and island spice served in a thatched-roof pavilion overlooking the bay.
Surf Bar: Sunset cocktails crafted with coconut toddy, local lime and sea salt.
